SEP 12-JUL 31: "FREEMASONRY IN WASHINGTON" EXHIBIT,
Washington
This exhibit is about the Mount Horeb Masonic Lodge of Washington, Arkansas. Mt. Horeb Lodge No. 4 was one the first lodges chartered in the state of Arkansas in 1838, and helped organize the Grand Lodge of the State of Arkansas in the same year. The exhibit showcases various artifacts of the lodge, including the original 1838 charter and original officer jewels that were crafted by Augustus Crouch, the local watchmaker of Washington. In conjunction with the exhibit, a Washington “National Treasure” tour will be available for visitors interested in learning more about Freemasonry in Washington. The tour will be part of our regular full tour offered by the park. Children 12 and under participating in the tour will receive a prize if they retrieve all the hidden clues. Contact the park for further details.

JUL 1-JUN 30: YESTERDAY'S OFFICE,
Scott

What a difference one hundred years makes. "Yesterday's Office" displays a plantation office where the clerks and secretaries used the most advanced office equipment of the time. Farm laborers collected their pay or paid their debts at the pay window. Behind the pay window, clerks would be operating the 5 or 9 column adding machines, secretaries typing on the noiseless Underwood typewriters and bookkeepers entering assets and debits in large ledgers. The plantation owner was writing checks and protecting them with the check protector.
Visitors can try their hand at typing on an Underwood typewriter and gain an understanding of the Qwerty keyboard.
